Beauty tips!
Not a beauty expert but according to my experience!
Hair: like it or not it’s probably going to fall! In my case it started with itchiness and then more and more coming off when brushing. I had read somewhere that it’s a good idea to cut your hair in advance. And that’s what I did, just to start getting used to the idea of having less hair. When it started itching and falling though it wasn’t fun to experience! The itchiness stopped right after I had it shaved and I couldn’t see it falling that much anymore.
It’s a good idea to cut your hair early if you are getting a wig. It might need some time to order and get and it sure is good to have it from the beginning, probably when most in shock! Otherwise have a look at headscarf tying videos online and buy yourself some scarfs! Read on tips about length, quality etc before buying.
Ask if your cancer team/hospital can help you with the costs for a wig and find yourself an experienced hairdresser.
Nails: most drugs cause brittle nails and some of them discolouration. I kept my nails short and used a colour-free nail strengthener. There are different products you can use. Don’t forget that hygiene and hydration are just as important.
Skin: hydration! Drink enough fluids and use long lasting lotions/body cream for sensitive skin. Avoid sun exposure.
Make-up: even if it’s not your thing, try it! Ask if there are any free make-up courses (for cancer patients) in your area. Otherwise spoil yourself with something similar. It won’t make the cancer disappear but, trust me, it will make you feel better when you want to look like yourself (or maybe better!) and skip the pitty looks!
Avoid waterproof products as those are less easy to remove. Use gentle make-up remover that soaks over the eyelids instead of rubbing to avoid irritation.
